Figurative Language

Mercury-planet(Mercury)
             -metal(Quick Silver)
             -Gods(Hermes)
Metaphor means:transferring a quality or characteristic from one thing to another.

Simile-when you compare 2 things that have simalrities
Comparison(the thing that are the same) using like or as.

  • A blind rage like a fire swept over him
  • A book that rends and tears like a broken saw
  • A breath of melancholy made itself felt like a chill and sudden gust from some unknown sea
  • A cloud in the west like a pall creeps upward
  • A cloud like a flag from the sky
  • As high as heaven
The big kids call me Mercury because I'm the swiftest thing in the neighborhood.
Computers are complicated idiot.
The detective listened to her tales with a wooden face.
  1. She was fairly certain that life was a fashion show.
  2. The typical teenage boy’s room is a disaster area.
  3. What storms then shook the ocean of my sleep.
  4. The children were roses grown in concrete gardens, beautiful and forlorn.
